OVERVIEW

Somethings about my (previous) computers. As these specs change quite rapidly overhere, it'll probably be outdated and incorrect. I only work on this page when I'm feeling bored. Like rightnow for example.

BLUB (#10)

Bought it (for just about $30!) after i got my ADSL connection, to make it my personal gateway™. Took me a while to learn Linux and get the thing working, but now I've got a great system for nearly no money. And (although in text-mode) it runs amazingly fast! Linux is perfect for turning an old 486 into a fast, reliable, working, system.

mainb. Some_mobo™ (1->5xISA)
CPU intel 80486 DX/2 66MHz
RAM 24MB (1x8, 3x4 SIMMs)

12" VGA monitor of my old IBM
17" SVGA monitor Deawoo 719B, dp.28, max. 1280x1024x60Hz
size quite large desktop case
soft Debian Linux 2.2.19 (and DOS6.0 on some small partition =)

Though I'm usually complaining 'bout the poor thing, I actually like this system better than anything else I've got. If I want my mail, chat, or do some quick surfin', I can always rely on blub, 24/7. Currently I'm even enjoying my console from a 17in screen =)

AARI (#9)

that's it. The 1st of July 1999, the glorious day I bought my own PC! And not just any computer, a 400MHz Celeron with 128MB and Voodoo2! I've worked hard to get the money, but it was all worth it.

size miditower case (230W): width 18.8cm; height 47cm; depth 42.0
software Debian Linux 2.4.18pre7
Windows 98SE

To make the system more unique, I placed a keylock and LED (displaying ARI, the system's name) at the front.
Update: The heater just died, but I'll be using it again soon (just have to find a new slot-1 cpu.)
Update: Okay I found a Celeron2-733. Quite nice.
Update: Now happily running Linux (and everything works ;)

BILBO (#4)

Picture of iPentium 133 After the PS/1 died, I convinced my parents to buy a new computer. A good computer this time, well beyond the current standards and not too expensive: an intel Pentium 133, 16MB, 1707MB with 8x CD-Rom.

mainb. unnamed (i430VX 4xSIMM 1xDIMM (!) 4xPCI 3xISA)
CPU intel Pentium 133MHz, tried to overclock to 166MHz, didn't work! Stupid Intel!
RAM 16MB (4x4MB SIMMs). One year later, I installed a 64MB DIMM (had to remove 2 SIMMs) but the DIMM only worked as 16MB (24MB total). Recently placed it in my new Celeron and works fine (64MB).
video S3 Trio 64V+ SVGA 1MB 64bit video card. (later Diamond 4MB and Voodoo][ until I got my new PC)
sound PC-speaker and Genius soundcard 16bit PnP (SbPro compatible). Two very cheap boxes at first (1W or so). Later I bought two great 50W boxes (@ my new PC now).
I/O 1707MB HDD E-IDE
3.5" 1.44Meg FDD
Realtek RTL8019 ISA PnP card 10Mb/s
input normal win95 keyboard and mouse (TrackMan Marble for a while too)
Goldstar 8x speed CD-ROM drive
ports serial 1x25pins and 1x9pins, 1 printer 25p and 1 keyboard.
monitor 14" SVGA monitor, dp.28, max.1024x768x60Hz : recently struck by lightning (no joke!)
Philips Brilliance 105: 15" SVGA monitor, dp.28, max.1280x1024x60Hz
size minitower case: width 18.5cm; height 33.7cm; depth 40.1cm
size Windows 95 Windows 98

Picture of opened iPentium 133 This is how it used to look inside the case (you'd never guessed) when I still used it (now it's the family PC so I took out all cool stuff like VOODOO][.) I removed the IDE cables before I took the picture, so you can clearly see (from top to bottom) the VOODOO][ accelerator, the video card, the Etherlink III (network)card, the soundcard, and the fax-card %). With a lot of imagination you can also see the DIMM and SIMMs. Well, whatever, you probably won't care. Click on the picture for a bigger image...

Currently: Used a lot by my family. It ain't fast, but heh, they can surf, use word and play Kyodai :D
